Dystopia

Dystopias explores spaces of isolation and desolation, where solitary figures inhabit environments shaped by absence and unease. In contrast to the imagined calm of Utopias, these works present landscapes and cityscapes that feel enclosed, oppressive, and at times suffocating — spaces where stillness carries tension rather than peace.

Rather than offering openness, the environments often feel as though they are closing in. Tunnels, underpasses, and confined passageways recur throughout the work, creating a sense of being surrounded or contained. The artist plays with extreme contrasts of light and shadow, where light appears fragmented or distant, offering little relief from the surrounding darkness.

The figures within these scenes are alone, suspended in environments that feel both vast and claustrophobic. Drawing on lived and imagined experience, Dystopias reflects the emotional weight of disconnection — inviting the viewer to consider what it means to exist within spaces that feel inescapable.
