WALKWAYS

Walkways explores the everyday urban environment of Wolverhampton city centre, focusing on the overlooked spaces that connect places — side streets, underpasses, and pedestrian routes shaped by routine and memory. In contrast to the imagined landscapes of Utopias and Dystopias, these works are rooted in real locations, reflecting the artist’s direct experience of moving through the city.

The series traces familiar paths once walked regularly, often during periods of heavy drinking. Certain buildings and routes hold personal significance, marking places that were once part of daily life but are no longer revisited. Streets become more than physical spaces; they carry memory, habit, and change.

Rendered through the artist’s characteristic tonal language, these environments feel both present and distant. Walkways becomes a way of revisiting and re-seeing these routes — not with nostalgia, but with a quiet awareness of distance from a past self and the spaces once inhabited.
